Notes on Noosa STA Stats From Meeting with Noosa Council Staff

By Noosa resident

Q: How many properties are now registered in Noosa? –

A: 2554 Properties approved and are still operating.

(Author's edit here: My understanding was that there were 4,000+ STAs in Noosa needing registration?)

Q: Have all of the Low and Medium and high density properties registered?

A: I’m unable to provide you with the break down of zones.

Q: Is there a breakdown of the areas?

A: Unable to provide.

Q: How many refusals?

A: 83 Refused.

Q: How many Compliance/Enforcement have been issued by council?

A: 25 Compliance notice – 4 show cause notices – 6 penalty infringement notice ($774).

Q: How many court notices have been issued since the instigation of the new Noosa Plan?

A: Nil

Q: How many properties are operating without having submitted an application and hence are not registered?

A: Approx 2000 not approved. I understand that these are not approved because they are in the Hastings St Tourist Zone. The tourist zones are exempt.

Q: What is happening with the party house in Cootharaba?

A: Need the address!

Q: How many calls were made to the hotline?

A: A total of 799 calls were received to short stay letting hotline from January to date.

In the end, there is still constant investigation into new STAs popping up and going after them for compliance issues. I believe all new STAs come to council for formal consideration and I have not seen any. I follow the approvals by delegations and I have seen none there either.

I asked about staffing issues and I was told that I have to ask the CEO. Staff are not allowed to answer. I will follow this up.

My key suggestion is the most important weapon against STAs is to call the hotline with complaints. That is the key issues councillors will look at when considering the next steps.
